Prince Edward Island Introduces CAD 1,200 Annual Home Heating Assistance

Canada: Prince Edward Island has introduced the PEI Home Heating Program to provide financial assistance to eligible low-income households facing difficulties paying heating bills. Qualifying applicants can receive CAD 1,200 (approximately USD 864) per calendar year. Eligibility is restricted to residents experiencing financial hardship who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, pay their own heating bills and are not receiving provincial social assistance. Annual income must not exceed CAD 45,000 (approximately USD 32,400) for a single-adult household or CAD 60,000 (approximately USD 43,200) for a family household.

The Salvation Army currently administers the programme, with provincial funding, and will continue accepting applications until 31 October 2026. From 1 November, Access PEI will take over administration and application processing. Eligible residents will be able to apply online or in person at an Access PEI location. The programme is intended to help households manage heating expenses during periods of financial difficulty.
