UK: The UK Government has proposed new energy efficiency regulations that could restrict the sale of certain heating devices, including some towel rails and underfloor heating systems. Under the proposals, heating products would be required to include controls that limit operation to specified periods in order to improve energy efficiency. The rules would apply to new product sales and not to existing installations.
According to the proposals, around half of current towel rail and underfloor heating products and between 17% and 27% of gas heaters could be affected. A Department for Energy Security and Net Zero spokesman said the reforms would “save households money by improving energy efficiency”. The proposals follow similar measures introduced in the European Union and planned changes affecting tumble dryers from 2027.
