UK: Grants of up to GBP 7500 (USD 10,200) for installing heat pumps will be extended until 2030 after Ed Miliband secured GBP 13.2 billion (USD 17.9 billion) in funding from the Treasury for Labour’s “warm homes plan.” The program aims to improve energy efficiency in homes across England and Wales, expand eligibility to a wider variety of heat pump systems, and help consumers cut bills and reduce emissions. The government is also expected to introduce a loan scheme to support additional home upgrades. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (Desnz) stated the extended boiler upgrade scheme would support the rollout of heat pumps alongside energy efficiency measures and other low-carbon technologies like solar and batteries.
Industry groups had urged the government to guarantee the future of the GBP 7,500 (USD 10,200) grants, which can halve installation costs. While the national average installation cost is GBP 5,565 (USD 7,568), some heat pumps can cost up to GBP 34,000 (USD 46,240), often requiring additional investments in insulation.
