UK Government Announces GBP 625 Million Investment to Train Construction Workforce

UK: The UK government has committed GBP 625 million (approx. USD 784 million) to train 60,000 construction workers as part of its plan to support housebuilding targets, aiming to deliver 1.5 million homes by the end of the current Parliament. The funding package includes GBP 100 million for ten new Technical Excellence Colleges, GBP 165 million to expand construction courses, and GBP 100 million for Skills Bootcamps.

All Local Skills Improvement Plan areas will receive GBP 20 million to strengthen partnerships between colleges and construction firms. A further GBP 40 million will support foundation apprenticeships launching in August 2025, offering GBP 2,000 per apprentice to employers. Additionally, GBP 100 million from the government and GBP 32 million from CITB will fund 40,000 annual placements. The CITB will also expand its support programme for SMEs, and an extra GBP 80 million will go toward employer-led training. A new Construction Skills Mission Board will oversee implementation.
