Dutch Government Allocates EUR 355 Million for Housing Infrastructure

Netherlands: The Dutch government has allocated EUR 355 million (USD 412 million) for infrastructure supporting the development of nearly 30,000 homes. The funding forms part of a broader investment exceeding EUR 16 billion in the maintenance and renewal of roads, bridges, railways and waterways. Municipalities including Alkmaar, Apeldoorn, Hengelo, Enschede and Helmond have welcomed the allocation, which will finance infrastructure required to make planned residential developments accessible rather than directly fund home construction.

In Alkmaar, the funding will support a bridge and tunnel serving new neighbourhoods expected to accommodate more than 10,000 homes. Hengelo and Enschede will use the allocation for infrastructure projects, including tunnels and underground bicycle parking near Enschede railway station. In Helmond, the investment will support developments in the city centre, the Stationskwartier district and surrounding areas, while Apeldoorn will direct funding towards housing development in its BSK area, covering the city centre, railway and canal.
