UK Boosts Boiler Upgrade Scheme Funding by GBP 50 million
UK: The UK government has approved an increase in funding for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, allowing Ofgem, the independent energy regulator, to over-allocate heat pump vouchers by up to GBP 50 million this financial year, raising the total to GBP 200 million. The decision follows a surge in demand for the GBP 7,500 grant for heat pumps in recent months. Jess Ralston, Head of Energy at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, highlighted the need to reduce reliance on gas for heating, noting that 85% of UK homes currently depend on it. She emphasized the importance of continuing heat pump policies to protect households from future gas price spikes.
