The EU Report Pinpoints Sweden, Bulgaria, and Portugal As The Best Countries For Heat pumps
Updated: May 31
A report by the EU's Joint Research Centre found that Sweden, Bulgaria, and Portugal have energy price ratios where power is at most 50% more expensive than gas, favoring heat pumps. Government installation subsidies also play a significant role in boosting heat pump deployment rates. For instance, Sweden has over two million heat pumps installed, supported by up to €1,890 in subsidies, which are most effective for cutting emissions, while Portugal has just one device for every 37 citizens. A support scheme covering 85% of the installation costs, capped at €2,500, hopes to increase these numbers. However, Bulgaria struggles with just one device installed for every 160 citizens.
