United States: The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) has announced higher rebate levels for residential heat pump installations, effective this month, following the expiry of federal tax credits on 31 December 2025 and the exhaustion of state incentive programmes. Under the revised scheme, customers can receive up to USD 4,000 (EUR 3,680) for converting gas systems to electric heat pump water heaters, up to USD 3,000 (EUR 2,760) for gas-to-electric heat pump HVAC conversions, and USD 1,000 (EUR 920) for electric-to-electric upgrades of heat pump water heaters and HVAC systems.
The rebates form part of SMUD’s 2030 Zero Carbon Plan, which includes a target to electrify 154,000 homes by 2030. Through its Advanced Home Solutions programme, more than 23,000 gas-fired space and water heating systems have already been replaced with electric heat pumps. The utility stated that the increased rebates are intended to support households in adopting electric heating and cooling technologies and to offset the impact of recently discontinued federal and state incentives.
