UAE: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Tuesday launched a AED 100 billion ($27.23 billion) mega project to expand the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) with the creation of the DIFC Zabeel District. According to the Dubai Government Media Office, the new district represents the region’s largest demand-driven expansion of a financial centre, covering 7.1 million sq. ft. of land with a total gross floor area of 17.7 million sq. ft.
The DIFC Zabeel District is designed to double the capacity of DIFC, which was established in 2004, to accommodate over 42,000 businesses, a workforce exceeding 125,000, and more than one million sq. ft. of space dedicated to future technologies and artificial intelligence. The expansion will be executed in six phases, with public access expected by 2030 and the full masterplan scheduled for completion in 2040. Work on the first phase is already underway.
