Saudi Arabia Launches Nationwide Initiative to Upgrade Old Air Conditioners
Saudi Arabia: A Saudi government agency has launched a nationwide program to replace outdated air conditioners with newer, more energy-efficient models to enhance energy efficiency and reduce household consumption. Named "Estbdal" (Replacement), the initiative is spearheaded by the Saudi Energy Efficiency Centre in collaboration with various government entities. Over 30 retailers, 350 showrooms, and four local manufacturing plants are participating in the effort. Homeowners who replace their old air conditioners will receive a $267 discount on the new units, along with complimentary delivery and installation services.
This initiative follows a similar program that targeted seven major Saudi cities and concluded in late 2023. The Saudi Energy Efficiency Centre, established in 2010, previously launched a high-efficiency air conditioner installation program that ended in late 2021. The Saudi government is committed to advancing energy efficiency and sustainability through such programs, aligning with the broader goals of the Saudi Green Initiative launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2021, which focuses on emission reduction, afforestation, land regeneration, and environmental protection.
