Sanitaryware Industry Seeks GST Rationalisation and Sustainability Focus in Budget

India: The sanitaryware industry expects the government to consider rationalising Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates on sanitaryware products in the upcoming Union Budget for FY 2025-26, aiming to improve accessibility and promote sustainable construction practices. Industry representatives believe such measures would not only support sectoral growth but also align with India's environmental goals. A focus on domestic consumption and international trade is also expected to boost related industries such as real estate and construction, driving demand for sanitaryware products.

The sector anticipates that government support for initiatives promoting sustainable building solutions and schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission and PM Awas Yojana could enhance employment opportunities, improve sanitation and health conditions, and provide affordable housing and infrastructure. Rapid urbanisation, changing consumer preferences, increased hygiene awareness, and technological advancements are seen as key drivers of growth. Manufacturers are responding to evolving consumer needs by innovating with sustainable materials, water-saving technology, and durable products, contributing to environmentally responsible development.
