Nepal: Nepal experienced a significant rise in construction material prices between February and June, creating cost pressure across infrastructure and building projects. Bitumen prices recorded one of the largest increases, rising by approximately 107%, while steel reinforcement bars increased by around 26%, cement by nearly 16%, and diesel prices also moved upward during the period. The increase affected road construction, housing developments, and other large infrastructure projects across the country.
The rise was mainly attributed to higher fuel prices, supply disruptions, and shortages of key materials, particularly bitumen used in road projects. Contractors and construction associations highlighted that the increase in input costs created financial pressure on ongoing projects and raised concerns regarding project delays, cost revisions, and execution challenges in Nepal's construction activities.
