Japan: Japanese home appliance retailer Nojima Corp. announced that it will acquire the household appliance business of Hitachi Ltd. for approximately ¥110.1 billion (USD 734 million). The deal, the largest acquisition in Nojima’s history, is expected to be completed in fiscal 2026, ending March 2027. As part of the transaction, Hitachi Global Life Solutions Inc. will spin off its household appliance division into a new entity, in which Nojima will acquire an 80.1% stake, making it a consolidated subsidiary, while retaining a 19.9% stake. The Hitachi unit will continue to hold its commercial air conditioning business separately.
Through this acquisition, Nojima aims to enhance its product development capabilities by combining Hitachi’s technological expertise with its own sales network and expanding the offering of high-value-added white goods in both domestic and international markets. The newly formed company will also take over overseas operations previously managed under a joint venture with Arcelik A.S., while maintaining the Hitachi brand and existing jobs. The move aligns with Nojima’s ongoing expansion strategy, following its acquisition of Conexio Corp. for about ¥85.4 billion (USD 569 million) in 2023 and making Vaio Corp. its subsidiary in 2025. Meanwhile, Hitachi continues to focus on its core social infrastructure business while streamlining noncore operations.
