Kenya: A new sanitary ware manufacturing facility has commenced operations in Kisumu County, following an investment of US$20 million. The plant, developed by Keda Ceramics, is the first sanitary ware factory in Kenya and the largest in East Africa, marking a significant step in the country’s industrial expansion. The facility is aligned with the government’s affordable housing initiative, which is driving demand for locally produced construction materials and encouraging domestic manufacturing across the building products sector.
The factory has a production capacity of approximately 4,000 units per day and has created around 600 jobs, contributing to employment generation and regional economic activity. Local production is expected to reduce dependence on imported sanitary products and lower material costs for large-scale residential developments. The project also reflects a broader shift toward strengthening local supply chains and increasing industrial activity in western Kenya, particularly within the Lake Basin region.
