New England Secures $500M for Heat Pump Installation
New England, USA: New England states have received $500 million in federal funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to promote the installation of electric heat pumps, replacing natural gas or oil heating systems. The funding, part of the EPA's $4.3 billion Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program, aims to accelerate the adoption of heat pump technology in residential and multifamily buildings. EPA Administrator Michael Regan highlighted the environmental and economic benefits, noting the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 971 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent by 2050. Maine expects up to $72 million, while Connecticut and Massachusetts will each receive about $100 million. Rhode Island anticipates $35-40 million. The program will focus on helping low- and moderate-income residents and aims to have heat pumps comprise 65% of residential heating, cooling, and water heating sales in participating states by 2030.Â
