New District Heating Facility in Hamburg Nears Completion
Germany: A new pressurized heat storage facility nearing completion at the Tiefstack cogeneration plant will be commissioned by Hamburger Energiewerke (HEnW) around 2024/25. This facility will utilize waste heat from nearby copper production, reducing CO2 emissions by nearly 100,000 tonnes annually. The project is part of a larger initiative, the Tiefstack energy park, which aims to fully replace the coal-fired CHP plant by 2030. This park will combine various heat sources like industrial waste heat, waste incineration, river water heat pumps, and wind power to create a stable, eco-friendly, and affordable district heating system for Hamburg. This translates to around 20,000 households benefiting from cleaner heat delivered through Hamburg's extensive 860-kilometer-long grid.
