Canada: The government of Manitoba has introduced the Affordable Home Energy heat pump Programme to support the installation of ground-source heat pumps for households currently using electric heating. Administered by Efficiency Manitoba, the scheme offers financial assistance to reduce heating expenses, with projected annual savings of up to CAD 1,000 (USD 730) per household. The initiative is part of the province’s wider Affordable Energy Plan, aimed at lowering energy costs, reducing emissions, and supporting employment in clean-energy sectors.

The programme provides support for both single-family and multi-unit residences, with options requiring no upfront costs. Efficiency Manitoba will oversee the process from energy assessments to insulation and heat pump installation. The provincial government’s efforts complement recent federal funding commitments, including CAD 7.9 million (USD 5.8 million) to expand the national heat pump subsidy in Manitoba. Eligible households may receive up to CAD 20,000 (USD 14,600) for oil-to-heat pump conversions. Policymakers are also linking the uptake of solar and battery storage technologies to enhance heat pump efficiency.
