KEDA Industrial Group Boosts Kenya's Local Economy with Ceramic Tile Factories
Kenya/China: Established in 1992, China-based company specializing in building material machinery, the KEDA Industrial Group, expanded its global footprint by launching the KEDA ceramics factory in Kenya's southern county of Kajiado in 2016.
The investment has significantly revitalized the local manufacturing sector, spurring economic growth and job creation.
Since establishing the ceramic tile factory in rural Kenya, there has been a noticeable positive impact on the local economy. The presence of the factory has stimulated ancillary businesses such as hotels and transportation services, contributing to regional development. The company has also set up additional factories, including another ceramic tile factory in Kisumu County and a sanitary ware factory, covering a total area of approximately 1.2 million square meters.
These facilities boast impressive production capacities, with the ceramic tile factories producing 110,000 square meters of floor tiles daily, and the sanitary ware factory generating 4,500 pieces of sanitary products each day. Looking ahead, there are plans to expand further, with three to five additional production lines and an acquisition of 95 more acres of adjacent land. Moreover, a solar-powered plant is slated for construction in Kajiado.
The company's commitment to local development extends beyond manufacturing. It has been actively involved in training and apprenticeship programs for local youth, some of whom have been sent to China for specialized short courses. This initiative aligns with their corporate social responsibility ethos, aiming to empower the local workforce.
In terms of environmental stewardship, the company leverages advanced Chinese technology to ensure sustainable practices. This includes recycling 400 cubic meters of water daily, demonstrating a commitment to ecological responsibility.
