India: India has imposed anti dumping duties on two Chinese products, cold rolled non oriented electrical steel and 1,1,1,2 Tetrafluoroethane or R 134a, after finding that these goods were exported to India at below normal prices. According to a notification issued by the finance ministry, anti dumping duty on certain Chinese steel producers has been set at US$ 223.82 per tonne, while a higher duty of US$ 415 per tonne has been imposed on other firms for a period of five years. On the refrigerant gas R134a, the duty has been imposed at rates going up to US$ 5,251 per tonne for five years to protect domestic manufacturers from low priced imports.
In a separate notification, India also imposed anti dumping duty on imports of 'Calcium Carbonate Filler Masterbatch' exported from Vietnam, which is widely used in the plastic industry. These measures follow investigations conducted by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies under the commerce ministry, which recommended the duties after assessing injury to domestic producers. Anti dumping duties are imposed under World Trade Organisation rules to address unfair trade practices and ensure a level playing field for domestic industries amid rising instances of low priced imports into the Indian market.
