Ideal Heating Shifts Focus to Heat Pumps with Government Support
UK: Ideal Heating is transitioning from producing 500,000 gas boilers annually to manufacturing heat pumps and low-carbon heating solutions. Supported by a government grant and an additional GBP 6.8 million (USD 8.4 million) investment from Ideal Heating and Gledhill, the company plans to produce 115,000 air source heat pumps by 2030. This initiative seeks to foster a domestic heat pump industry and support job creation.
Heat pumps, while currently more expensive than conventional boilers, come with a GBP 7,500 (USD 9,300) grant to help offset costs. The government estimates that with a smart electricity tariff, households could save GBP 100 (USD 125) annually compared to gas boilers, with better insulation potentially cutting bills by GBP 200 (USD 250) per year.
