CANADA: As part of the federal government's pre-budget consultation process, HRAI submitted its recommendations in May, continuing its annual practice of providing policy input. The submission was developed based on feedback from HRAI members and reviewed by the association’s Policy and Priorities Committee.

HRAI’s recommendations focused on four key priorities:

  1. Protecting Canada’s HVACR industry from potential trade disputes with the United States by preventing tariff escalation through proactive negotiations, exempting HVACR products from retaliatory tariffs where necessary, and promoting trade diversification alongside domestic manufacturing investments.

  2. Expanding and strengthening the HVACR workforce by establishing a retraining fund and supporting residential trade certification within the sector.

  3. Improving Canadians’ health through enhanced indoor environmental quality (IEQ) by developing IEQ standards and certification programs, while investing in a national awareness campaign.

  4. Accelerating energy savings and emissions reductions through more effective building retrofit programs by leveraging the HVACR industry’s expertise to better design and target incentive initiatives.
