UK: Hounslow has been awarded £10.55 million (US$14.3 million) in funding from the UK Government’s Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF) to launch a major low-carbon heating initiative in the borough. The funding will support Phase One of the Hounslow Heat Network, a project designed to transform the way homes and buildings in Isleworth and Brentford are heated.

The scheme will capture unused heat from Thames Water’s Mogden Sewage Treatment Works and distribute it through approximately 8.8 km of underground pipework. Once operational, the network has the capacity to provide clean and reliable heating to up to 3,000 homes, as well as local NHS facilities, libraries, schools, commercial properties, and other public and private buildings across the borough.

By reducing reliance on conventional fossil fuel-based heating, the Hounslow Heat Network will help lower carbon emissions and improve energy resilience, particularly against future gas price volatility. The project is also expected to stimulate the local supply chain, deliver cost-effective decarbonised heat, and create new skills and employment opportunities within the region.
