Hong Kong Economy Grows 5.2% in Q3 2026, Supported by Strong Exports and Domestic Demand

China: Hong Kong's economy grew by 5.2% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2026, marking its 15th consecutive quarter of growth and exceeding economists' average forecast of 3.6%. Growth accelerated from 4.2% in Q2 but remained below the 5.9% recorded in Q1. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, GDP increased by 1.9%. Total goods exports rose by 30.4%, compared with 28.9% in Q2, while imports increased by 29.9%. Private consumption expenditure grew by 2.8%, indicating continued domestic demand, although growth was slightly lower than in the previous quarter. For the first three quarters of 2026, GDP expanded by 5.1%, the fastest growth for this period in five years.

Looking ahead, the government expects economic momentum to remain positive, supported by global investment in artificial intelligence, inbound tourism, cross-border travel and active financial markets. However, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and tighter monetary policies by major central banks remain potential risks to the outlook.
