Hong Kong Customs Seizes Refrigerants Bound for US

Hong Kong: Hong Kong customs officers intercepted a shipment of refrigerant being smuggled from Hong Kong to the USA at the Kwai Chung container terminal on July 9. The US-bound shipment, declared as containing low-valued goods such as carpets and storage bags, was found to contain 2,560 cylinders of refrigerant destined for Long Beach, California. The haul included various refrigerants, such as R134a, R404A, R407A, R407C, and R410A, as well as the ozone depleting R22, which is banned in the USA and elsewhere.
