Hellweg and Toom End Joint Purchasing Cooperation
Germany: The German DIY chain Hellweg and Toom Baumarkt (Rewe Group) have ended their cooperation in the joint purchasing of DIY Union. Hellweg will exit DIY Union on December 31, 2024, due to a mutual agreement stemming from differences in opinion regarding the future development and strategic direction of their cooperation. Toom will continue to operate DIY Union independently.
DIY Union was originally founded in 2011, terminated in 2013, and then resumed in 2018. The two companies together have a combined sales volume of around EUR 3 billion on the German market. Hellweg has a history of establishing and terminating purchasing companies with other retail groups, including Praktiker/Max Bahr and Baumax. In 2023, Hellweg had gross sales of EUR 905 million and 95 stores in Germany and Austria, ranking ninth among German DIY groups. Toom Baumarkt ranked fifth with EUR 3.086 billion and 310 stores in Germany only.
