GERMANY: The six largest DIY retail chains in Germany recorded a combined sales decline of 0.5% in 2025, with total gross turnover reaching EUR 19.435 billion (US$22.7 billion) compared to EUR 19.533 billion (US$ 22.8 billion) in the previous year. Among the leading operators, Hornbach delivered the strongest growth at 1.9%, followed closely by Globus Baumarkt with 1.8%, while Obi posted moderate growth of 0.6%. Bauhaus achieved slight growth of 0.2% and maintained its position as Germany’s largest DIY retailer by turnover for the second consecutive year. In contrast, REWE Group, through its Toom, B1 Discount Baumarkt, and Klee Gartencenter chains, experienced a 2.6% decline, while the retail division of Hagebau reported a sharper drop of 5.5%, reflecting the impact of store closures and rebranding activities during the year. According to preliminary analysis by diy-Fachmagazin, other companies within Germany’s top 20 DIY retailers also faced declining sales in 2025. However, the top five German DIY operators, excluding Toom, performed comparatively better in international markets, where they achieved moderate turnover growth abroad.
