European Heat Pump Sales Rise Amid Energy Price Concerns

EU: Residential heat pump sales in Europe increased during the first quarter of 2026, with France, Germany and Poland recording an average growth of 25 per cent. The rise followed higher gas and oil prices after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz on 2 March, which affected energy markets across several regions. Across 11 European countries, around 575,000 units were sold between January and March 2026, compared with 494,000 units during the corresponding period in 2025, representing an overall increase of 17 per cent.

Austria recorded a 30 per cent decline in sales, which industry sources linked to the absence of government subsidies. Industry representatives said factors influencing demand included national subsidy schemes, rising energy prices and concerns over energy supply security, particularly from March onwards. The European Heat Pump Association stated that the European Commission had outlined measures aimed at supporting heat pump adoption, including VAT reductions, tax measures and support for social leasing schemes for lower-income households.
