Equipe Cerámicas Secures EU Grant for Decarbonisation Efforts

Spain: Equipe Cerámicas has received a grant of EUR 478,457 (USD 517,000) from the European Union’s recovery funds under the decarbonisation initiative by the Ministry of Industry. The company is among the tile manufacturers leading the transition to electric kilns within the ceramic sector. Its plant in Onda is one of 15 projects in Spain selected under Line 1 of the industrial decarbonisation programme, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by 1,154.46 tonnes annually. The Spanish government has allocated EUR 80 million (USD 86.5 million) across these projects, collectively targeting a reduction of over 219,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. Other beneficiaries in the Valencian Community include plants in Sagunt, Alfarrasí, and Rotglà i Corbera, with similar initiatives in Tarragona, Barcelona, Vitoria, Asturias, and Albacete.
The Ministry of Industry has granted over EUR 450 million (USD 486 million) in subsidies and loans to 75 decarbonisation projects across Spain. In Castellón, two green hydrogen projects by bp and Green Cobra will also receive European funding. Line 1 of the programme, with a budget of EUR 1 billion (USD 1.08 billion), supports national industries in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Equipe Cerámicas has invested EUR 2 million (USD 2.16 million) in its first electric kiln, reducing CO2 emissions by 1,500 tonnes per year and lowering energy costs by 30%. The company has also received EUR 885,000 (USD 956,000) in support from the Generalitat and aims to continue its efforts toward full decarbonisation.
