UK: E.ON has signed an agreement to acquire UK energy supplier OVO, expanding its customer base in the UK energy market. E.ON currently serves around 5.6 million customers in the country, and the addition of OVO is expected to add approximately four million more customers. The company stated that the larger customer base and digital infrastructure would support the development and expansion of energy solutions across Europe.
The combined businesses will have around seven million smart meters installed, with more than 60% of customers connected through digital systems. E.ON stated that the acquisition will support the expansion of services related to electricity, heating and e-mobility, with a focus on flexible energy solutions and smart tariffs. The purchase price was not disclosed. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval, including review by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), and is expected to close in the second half of 2026. Until then, E.ON Next and OVO will continue operating as separate entities.
