Netherlands: Vihamij, a technical wholesaler serving construction and installation companies, was declared bankrupt by a court shortly before Christmas. All thirty of the company’s branches have been closed, affecting a workforce of 110 employees. It remains unclear whether the business will be restarted. Founded in 1955 and headquartered in Arnhem, the company supplied a wide range of products including sanitaryware, climate systems, sustainable technologies, electrical materials, tools, non-ferrous metals, finishing products and piping systems. Its customer base mainly consisted of small and medium-sized, locally based installation firms and builders, who sourced materials through its nationwide network of counters.
This marks the third bankruptcy in the company’s history. The wholesaler previously entered bankruptcy proceedings in 2012, when it operated forty-three branches and employed 140 people. Following a restart that year, around 100 employees continued with the company. An earlier bankruptcy occurred in the 1980s, after which the business resumed operations in 1983 under the name Vihamij bv.
