NIGERIA: Daikin, in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), launched a nationwide initiative in Nigeria to promote high-efficiency inverter air conditioners as a sustainable response to the country's growing energy demands. The event, held in Abuja, marked a key milestone in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging the adoption of advanced cooling technologies. Daikin’s Executive Officer, Mr. Junichi Omori, reaffirmed the company’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and emphasized the superior energy performance of inverter air conditioners using low-GWP R32 refrigerants, which consume less electricity than traditional systems.

JICA’s Chief Representative, Mr. Susumu Yuzurio, reiterated JICA’s support for Nigeria’s energy transition by promoting access to environmentally friendly climate control solutions. The seminar was part of JICA’s initiative to encourage the deployment of innovative Japanese technologies in partner countries to support their socio-economic development. The program aims to enhance nationwide energy efficiency, reduce operating costs for both businesses and households, and align with Nigeria’s environmental goals through the widespread adoption of high-efficiency air conditioning systems. According to Nigeria’s Cooling Action Plan, demand for air conditioners is expected to increase eightfold by 2050, accompanied by a sevenfold rise in electricity use and greenhouse gas emissions.
