USA: Daikin has announced five major commitments aimed at significantly increasing the supply of heat pumps in California. These initiatives, which include a plan to produce one million heat pumps, will support the state's goal of deploying six million heat pumps by the end of the decade.

In October 2023, the California Energy Commission revealed that 10 of the world's largest manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers of heating and cooling equipment had agreed to help achieve California's target of six million heat pumps by 2030.

Daikin's announcement marks the first set of concrete steps toward meeting this pledge, following ongoing collaboration with the state. The five commitments are:

Increase Production: Daikin is committed to maximizing its local production capacity to deliver one million heat pumps in California by 2030.

Expand Workforce and Partnerships: Daikin will grow its California workforce and partnerships by:

  • Establishing new distribution locations.

  • Opening new branch training centers focused on heat pump installation.

Sustainability and Innovation Centers: Daikin will open a sustainability and innovation center, along with customer experience showrooms in major California cities, to showcase the benefits of inverter heat pumps and other decarbonization technologies.

Utility Company Partnerships: Daikin will collaborate with California utility companies to accelerate the transition to inverter-based heat pumps by:

  • Increasing education about inverter technologies and their installation.

  • Promoting inverter technologies through incentive programs.

  • Developing products to improve efficiency and reduce costs associated with panel upgrades during heat pump conversions.

Support California Heat Pump Partnership: Daikin will take a leading role in the new California Heat Pump Partnership and contribute to a blueprint for installing six million heat pumps by 2030. This includes promoting inverter-based heat pump adoption through consumer marketing, workforce and community college training, supply chain integration, and government partnerships.

These commitments reflect Daikin's dedication to supporting California's ambitious environmental goals and fostering the widespread adoption of energy-efficient heat pump technology.
