Cyprus Harnesses Solar Energy: ‘Free’ Hot Water for Over 93% of Households
Cyprus: In Cyprus, with 300-340 days of sunshine annually, the country has outpaced other European Union nations in adopting solar water heating systems, with 93.5% of households now using this renewable technology. Petros Mihali from Thriamvos company states, "We do around four installations a day across Cyprus," highlighting the efficiency of the system.
EU data confirms Cyprus has exceeded renewable energy targets for heating and cooling of buildings, thanks to widespread solar thermal technology use. Charalampos Theopemptou, Cyprus' first Environment Commissioner, noted that “in terms of renewable energy resources being used for the sustainable heating and cooling of buildings, we’ve met the target easily, precisely because of such extensive utilization of solar water heaters for so many years.”
