Consumer Confidence Index in Indonesia Continues to Decline in June
Jakarta: Bank Indonesia revealed on Monday that while consumers remain generally upbeat about Indonesia's economic conditions, confidence has been declining. The consumer confidence index (CCI) fell from 127.7 in April to 125.2 in May and further to 123.3 in June. Almost all consumer groups, categorized by monthly spending, showed decreased confidence except for those spending over Rp 5 million a month, whose CCI rose from 127.8 in May to 130.3 in June. The report by Bank Indonesia states that the current economic condition index [CECI] reached 112.9 in June, while the consumer expectation index [CEI] stood at 133.8. The current economic condition index ( CECI), reflecting current economic perceptions, dropped from 119.4 in April to 115.4 in May, then to 112.9 in June. The consumer expectation index (CEI), indicating future economic expectations, also declined, from 136 in April to 135 in May, and to 133.8 in June. Indonesians spent 73.9% of their income in June, up from 73% in May. The survey included over 4,600 households across 18 major cities.
