CHINA: China has announced an ambitious urban renewal strategy under its 15th Five-Year Plan, prioritizing the renovation of unsafe housing, ageing residential communities, urban villages, and historic buildings through 2030. The initiative also includes upgrading parks, sports facilities, underground utility networks, emergency shelters, and accelerating the digitalization of urban housing infrastructure. Authorities aim to create greener, safer, and more resilient cities while strengthening urban governance. The Ministry of Finance confirmed continued central government funding for urban renewal, building on support launched in 2024 for 50 pilot cities. The programme is expected to generate significant opportunities across construction, engineering, smart city technologies, and urban infrastructure management.
