CHILE: Chile’s Ministry of the Environment has initiated a public consultation process to gather technical, scientific, and economic input for developing a new hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) emission standard. The Ozone Unit is seeking data on refrigerant usage, alternative technologies, emissions reduction methods, and sectoral practices, particularly in large-scale refrigeration systems. Submissions are open until 16 May 2026, ahead of a draft standard expected within 18 months. The initiative is part of Chile’s broader effort to reduce HFC use and encourage adoption of low-impact and natural refrigerants such as CO₂ and ammonia. Existing examples in the country include CO₂-based supermarket systems and ammonia installations in industrial refrigeration, supported by pilot funding under the Montreal Protocol framework.
