three quarters of 2025, with key indicators, including fixed-asset investment, infrastructure investment, real estate development investment, and total agricultural output value, all ranking first in the province in growth speed. The data was released on January 19 in Guangzhou at a press conference reviewing Guangdong’s development under the 14th Five-Year Plan, 2021 to 2025. Located in eastern Guangdong, Chaozhou is widely known as China’s “Ceramic Capital” and the home of Dancong oolong tea. The city is also recognised as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, famous for local delicacies such as beef hotpot and braised goose.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Chaozhou became China’s largest production base for smart sanitary ware, ranking first nationwide in both smart sanitary ware output and sanitary ceramic exports. Annual smart toilet production reached 56 million units, accounting for over 30% of national output, meaning one in every three smart toilets in China is made in Chaozhou. These products are exported to more than 130 countries and regions across Europe, the Americas, Australia, and beyond. Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan, 2026 to 2030, the city aims to secure over 50% domestic market share in smart toilets by advancing technologies such as sensors, controls, and wireless communication, while expanding into Belt and Road markets, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Latin America. In parallel, Chaozhou’s tea industry is projected to exceed USD 1.32 billion in output value in 2025, supported by the global recognition of Chaozhou Gongfu Tea, which has been added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
