Canada Expands Heat Pump Rebates For British Columbia Residents

Canada: More residents in the Canadian province of British Columbia (B.C.) are now eligible for heat pump rebates as the province expands efforts to combat climate change. The government has announced an expansion of the heat-pump program, increasing the eligibility criteria for rebates.

For instance, a family of four with a combined pre-tax annual income of CAD 185,620 (USD 136300) or less can now receive up to CAD 10,500 (USD 7711) in rebates for switching to a heat pump. Previously, the income threshold for a family of four was CAD 114,647 (USD 84200).

In May, the federal and provincial governments allocated a quarter of a billion dollars to fund 16,000 heat pumps for single-family homeowners in B.C. This initiative encourages residents to transition to electric heat pumps for heating and cooling their homes, replacing gas or oil-powered systems. This is part of a broader effort to reduce carbon emissions from fossil fuels.
