Britain Doubles Heat Pump Funding and Eases Installation Restrictions
UK: The UK government has announced a significant increase in funding to encourage the adoption of heat pumps and relaxed planning rules to simplify their installation. The boiler upgrade scheme, initially launched in 2022, will see its funding rise by EUR 30 million this financial year and double to EUR 295 million by 2025-2026. The program offers grants of EUR 7,500 to help households replace gas boilers with environmentally friendly heat pumps, which are critical for achieving Britain’s target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 81% by 2035 compared to 1990 levels. Additionally, the government will remove the requirement for heat pumps to be installed at least one meter from property boundaries, addressing a common planning hurdle that has caused many potential installations to be abandoned.
