Brazil Faces Shortage of Refrigeration Technicians as HVAC-R Market Expands

BRAZIL: Brazil is experiencing a growing shortage of qualified refrigeration and air conditioning technicians as demand rises across supermarkets, hospitals, industries, commercial buildings and data centers. According to ABRAVA, the HVAC-R sector generated approximately US$9.1 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach US$10.1 billion in 2026. Installation and maintenance services grew by 20.7% in 2025 and are expected to increase by a further 19.8% in 2026. Technician salaries in São Paulo range from approximately US$425 to US$795 per month, with an average starting salary of around US$623. Industry stakeholders are increasing training efforts as more advanced, energy-efficient and automated systems require higher levels of technical expertise.
