According to the Energy Department, President Joe Biden will support nine manufacturing projects with $169 million from last year's climate bill, utilizing special wartime authorities to increase US manufacture of heat pumps. In order to increase funding for sustainable energy technology, Biden used the emergency powers of the Defense Production Act (DPA), which dates back to the Cold War, to make the grants. The American Gas Association, a lobbying organization for the natural gas sector, was incensed by the statement, which was the most recent in a string of initiatives to encourage the US toward more energy-efficient home appliances.
