Sweden/Lithuania: Sweden-based Beijer Ref has agreed to acquire a 90% stake in Lithuania-based Refra, with an option to purchase the remaining shares. Refra, established in 1994 and headquartered in Vilnius, manufactures heating and cooling systems using natural refrigerants such as carbon dioxide and propane, and reports annual turnover of approximately SEK 500 million (USD 53 million/EUR 49 million). The company will continue to operate under its existing brand following the transaction, which remains subject to approval by Lithuania’s competition authority.
The acquisition is intended to expand Beijer Ref’s original equipment manufacturer portfolio by adding technologies related to indirect cooling and heating systems using natural refrigerants. Refra’s product range includes carbon dioxide refrigeration systems and propane-based chillers and heat pumps. Beijer Ref stated that the transaction is expected to have a minor positive impact on its financial results while extending its customer base and product offering within the natural refrigerant segment.
