Belgium: Armstrong International has revised its expansion plan for its manufacturing site in Herstal, Belgium, doubling its intended annual production capacity for industrial high-temperature heat pumps from 50 MW to 100 MW by 2027. The update follows continued momentum in industrial decarbonisation and support from the European Commission’s Innovation Fund, which intends to allocate EUR 1 billion to projects that electrify industrial process heat through technologies such as heat pumps and waste-heat recovery. The company completed the acquisition of the industrial site earlier this year, including a 3,700 m² production area, which will be expanded to 7,000 m² to accommodate the additional production line.
Refurbishment and construction at the site, located opposite Armstrong’s existing facility in Herstal, are scheduled to begin in 2026. The expanded facility will incorporate technologies such as geothermal systems, solar panels and water-recovery solutions, and will include administrative offices, a high-temperature heat pump test bench and a training centre. The project is expected to create around 77 direct jobs in Herstal and approximately 300 indirect roles across the European supply chain, contributing to regional industrial development and the wider clean-energy transition.
