AUSTRALIA: Xiaomi is preparing a major push into Australia’s home appliance sector, targeting the fast-growing air-conditioning market valued at about US$3.7 billion in 2025. Backed by multi-million-dollar investments in its own manufacturing facilities, the company is shifting from an outsourced production model toward greater in-house control, with plans to internalise around 20% of air-conditioner manufacturing.
Xiaomi is positioning itself against established brands such as Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, LG Electronics, Panasonic and others, using aggressively priced, smart-enabled systems as its main differentiator. The company is also considering bypassing traditional retailers through direct online sales or Xiaomi-branded stores.
With appliances now contributing roughly 30% of revenue and strong ecosystem integration via its app platform, Xiaomi’s expansion is expected to intensify competitive pressure on Australian retailers and incumbents alike.
