BANGLADESH: Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, Bangladesh’s leading electronics manufacturer, has faced a challenging 2024–25 fiscal year, with overall revenue declining by nearly 6% to Tk7,082 crore (US$ 583 million) amid weak consumer demand and political instability. Despite achieving modest growth in refrigerator sales and exports, the company’s domestic air conditioner and television segments suffered steep declines, mirroring the broader economic slowdown in the country.
The fiscal year began on a tough note as Bangladesh contended with sluggish economic activity, high inflation, and elevated borrowing costs, all of which eroded consumer purchasing power, particularly in the premium electronics segment, industry sources noted. After a strong performance in the previous year driven by rising temperatures and rapid urbanisation, air conditioner demand failed to maintain momentum in FY25.
