UK’s Leading Independent Kitchen and Bathroom Distributor Waterline Enters Liquidation

UK: One of the UK’s largest independent wholesale distributors of kitchen and bathroom products is going into liquidation.
Waterline, based on North Crawley Road in Newport Pagnell, has made over 100 employees redundant as administrators oversee an “orderly wind down” of operations. Alex Cadwallader and Dane O’Hara from Leonard Curtis were appointed Joint Administrators earlier this month. The liquidation follows unsuccessful efforts by Waterline’s board to secure a buyer for the company, which has operated for nearly 80 years. Known as the UK’s largest supplier of kitchen furniture, appliances, sinks, taps, and ancillary products to independent kitchen specialists, Waterline has depots nationwide, and its Blue Book of products has long been regarded as the “kitchen trade bible.”
The company experienced strong trading and exceptional growth between 2021 and 2022, but subsequently faced a decline due to multiple challenges, according to the administrators. Contributing factors included the lifting of national COVID restrictions, rising interest rates, and the cost-of-living crisis, which collectively led to a sharp drop in consumer spending. As a result, Waterline increasingly relied on shareholder funding, which became unsustainable from 2025 onward.
