UK: Between April and August 2025, the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard Pilot Testing Programme was applied to 205 projects from 134 owners, covering a diverse range of building types and sectors. Insights from this pilot are now shaping Version 1 of the Standard in preparation for market launch.

The pilot welcomed applications from buildings across the UK at various stages of development, from early design to post-construction. Projects included both high-performing buildings and typical examples, even if they were unlikely to fully meet the Standard’s ambition.

Notable pilot sites, such as the King Charles III Sacristy at Westminster Abbey and Postal Street Housing for Manchester City Council, helped test the Standard’s clarity and usability in real-world applications, as well as the industry’s readiness for adoption.

Participants applied the Standard to their projects while engaging in technical surveys and structured forums with the Standard’s Technical Steering Group. They also had access to peer-to-peer groups for knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving. This process provided valuable feedback on applying the Standard across a full spectrum of building types and sectors.
