UK Heat Pump Installations Jump 43% in 2024 as Renewables Hit Record Highs
Heat Pump

UK: The UK witnessed a significant rise in heat pump installations in 2024, with a 43% increase compared to 2023, according to data from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). The MCS recorded nearly 60,000 certified heat pump installations, bringing the total number of installations in UK homes and small businesses to over 275,000. Despite this progress, the annual installation rate remains far below the target of 600,000 heat pumps per year by 2028, set to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from home heating.

The MCS credited government schemes such as the boiler upgrade program in England and Wales, offering grants of up to EUR 7,500 (USD 7,700 approx.), and the Home Energy Scotland grant and loan scheme, providing up to EUR 9,000 (USD 9,250 approx.), for boosting the adoption of heat pumps. Overall, more than 260,000 certified small-scale renewables, including solar panels and battery storage, were installed in 2024. Solar panels led the trend with 180,000 installations, while battery installations reached a record 20,000. The total number of certified renewable installations across the UK has now surpassed two million.
