US: Homeowners can claim a federal tax credit of up to 30%, or a maximum of USD 2,000 per year, for purchasing a qualified heat pump water heaters, with incentives expiring on December 31. The average total cost in 2023 was about USD 4,700, roughly USD 2,000 for the unit and USD 2,700 for installation, meaning the tax credit can reduce the cost by around USD 1,410. Eligible low- and moderate-income households can also receive an additional USD 1,750 rebate through the Home Electrification and Appliances Rebate Program until September 30, 2031, or until funds run out. Heat pump water heaters are two to three times more efficient than standard electric units, saving an estimated USD 550 annually for a four-person household while lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
