Thailand: Thailand’s Economic Cabinet has approved a fiscal stimulus package aimed at revitalising the country’s declining tourism sector and boosting economic growth. The Ministry of Finance is expected to present the proposal to the full Cabinet for approval next week. The decision followed the first meeting of the Economic Cabinet under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s administration, which focused on shaping the government’s economic strategy for the next four months.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas stated that the measures were necessary as domestic tourism had fallen by 8% over the past eight months. He projected that the stimulus would contribute approximately 0.4% to Thailand’s GDP growth by the end of the year.
